(TOPEKA, Kan.) - Kansas State Treasurer Lynn Jenkins, CPA is proud to announce that the Kansas State Treasurer's office raised $3,765 for Project Topeka and won back the top spot among state agencies with less than 100 employees during the 2007 Project Topeka Food Drive. The State Treasurer's office had won the award in 2004 and 2005.
"Nearly $3,800 was raised by the 39 employees at the State Treasurer's office," said Treasurer Jenkins. "It is my honor to work with this generous group of individuals."
"Isn't it incredible what a small number of people can do," said Treasurer Jenkins.
State Treasurer campaign chairs, Lisa Bervert and Kathy Priest, attended the awards ceremony at the SRS Learning Center where the announcement was made and a plaque was presented to them.
Project Topeka 2007 met their goal of 197 tons of food with the State of Kansas employees donating 94 tons.
Jenkins, a former State Representative and Senator from Topeka, was elected Treasurer on Nov. 5, 2002. She is a Certified Public Accountant and former small business owner. Since being sworn into office in January 2003, Jenkins has expanded investment options in Learning Quest, initiated multiple financial literacy programs, and eliminated the reliance on state general fund dollars to operate the office.
