TOPEKA - Kansas State Treasurer Lynn Jenkins, CPA is pleased to announce the 2006 Learning Quest/Great American Basketball League Dream Team. The team is listed below.
- 8th Grade: Allison Walter from Good Shepherd school. Allison is the daughter of Penny and Larry Walter of Shawnee.
- 7th Grade: Cooper Page from Blue Valley Middle School. Cooper is the son of Kristi Parry and Robert Page of Stanley.
- 6th Grade: Jordan Rose from Pleasant Ridge Middle School. Jordan is the daughter of Dave and Stacy Rose of Olathe.
- 5th Grade: Megan Smith from Christa McAuliffe Elementary School. Megan is the daughter of Stephen and JoAnn Smith of Lenexa.
The Dream Team is comprised of a selected group of Great American Basketball League (GABL) participants from grades 5 to 8. One student from each grade was chosen based on achievements in academics, school activities, community service and an essay submission. The four honorees were recognized at the annual GABL awards ceremony April 26 and each received a $1,000 Learning Quest college savings account and a plaque.
"We received some truly outstanding entries," said State Treasurer Jenkins, administrator of the Learning Quest program. "It's apparent that these students take great pride in academics and being involved in their school and community. It's also a tribute to their parents who must be great role models for these children."
Learning Quest was created by the Kansas Legislature in 1999 and was officially opened July 1, 2000. The program is administered by the Kansas State Treasurer Lynn Jenkins, CPA, and is managed by American Century Investments.
