Treasurer McKinney partners with the Kansas Hospital Association to return property to Kansans
Kansas State Treasurer Dennis McKinney has partnered with the Kansas Hospital Association in an attempt to return property left at hospitals around the state to the rightful owners and heirs. Now hospital facilities across the state will be able to benefit from the services McKinney's staff offer in safeguarding and returning belongings.

"As State Treasurer I will continue to work to find ways of reuniting people with their lost property," McKinney said. "This new partnership with Kansas Hospital Association will take the responsibility of storing items and finding the owners off of area hospitals allowing them to remain focused on patient care."

The Kansas Treasurer's office safeguards valuables that have been turned over to the office as unclaimed property. By law, the Treasurer's office takes possession of abandoned property and holds those valuables for up to three years. During that period, the office advertises the name of the property holder on the website, www.kansascash.com and attempts to make contact with the owner or heirs to return the items.

"I want to be sure that patients of Kansas hospitals, and their families, are reunited with property that may have been left behind," McKinney explained. "This is just one more way of protecting private property ownership."

To search for unclaimed property currently held by the State Treasurer's office or for more information on sending safekeeping items to the Treasurer's office please visit www.kansascash.com or call 1-800-432-0386.
