Dear Friends:
The Economic Stimulus payments began earlier than expected. The payments were originally scheduled to begin May 2, but the first deposits started showing up in bank accounts on Monday, April 28.
Soon after Congress passed this package, I cautioned Kansans to use this opportunity to make their future a little more comfortable by taking control of any debt that may be bogging down their day-to-day finances. Today or in the next few weeks as your bank balance start increasing take a moment and revisit your master financial plan. Ask yourself, "What can we do with this money that will help us on a long-term basis? Where can we get ahead?"
Any debt that you can pay down, or even pay off, with this rebate will free up more of your money in the future. Other possible options to consider are paying off the balance on any credit cards, establishing (or putting more money into) an emergency fund, adding money to your retirement accounts, and saving for your children's college educations in a 529 Plan such as Learning Quest.
I hope you find this selection of articles all offering practical advice and information helpful and informative.
