Dear Friends:
April - the month of Truth. How many of us will be stuck in that long line at the post office to make sure the envelope is post marked April 15, 2005? How many of us will be up until the wee morning hours of April 15 checking, double-checking and triple-checking our forms, figures and attachments? How many of us will be one of the lucky ones that will receive money back?
April's edition of MoneyWise offers helpful advice for this filing season from tax audit triggers to ways to spend your tax refund wisely. This time of year is also a good time to look ahead and plan for the 2005 tax year. Are you taking full advantage of all the tax credits and benefits Uncle Sam has to offer? Have you minimized your federal income tax liability as much as allowed by tax laws?
Take care of today and plan for tomorrow is a great motto. Here at the Treasurer's office, we do our part to help you do just that. Each year my office hosts Financial Literacy seminars to help Kansans with estate planning, tax preparation, long term care insurance, and investment tips. The seminars, instructed by respected professionals in their fields of expertise, help attendees organize their finances and set priorities.
It is an honor to serve as your Kansas State Treasurer and I hope you enjoy a stress-free tax season!
