As our kids head back to school we think about the future and what it holds for our children. With the price for education after high school continuing to increase it is more important than ever for Kansas families to start saving and start saving early for their children's future. Whether your child will attend a four-year university, community college, or seek a technical education, saving for these critical years in a child's life is a necessity in this day and age. As your State Treasurer and administrator of the Learning Quest 529 Education Savings Plan, I want you to know that help is available.
Just this year the Kansas Legislature continued funding for the Kansas Investments in Developing Scholars (K.I.D.S) matching grant program and made it a permanent part of the Learning Quest 529 Education Savings Program. The K.I.D.S program is a unique opportunity for Kansas families that want to begin planning for their child's education beyond high school but may need some assistance to make the goal of savings a reality.
Under the K.I.D.S program the grant will match the first $600 that a participant contributes this year to a Learning Quest account. If you are a Kansas resident ready to start planning for your children's future, I urge you to visit our website at www.kansasstatetreasurer.com to find out if you qualify for the K.I.D.S matching grant program.
The Learning Quest 529 Education Savings Program coupled with the K.I.D.S matching grant initiative makes education more affordable, even in difficult times. Struggling Kansans will find the greatest opportunities to move their families ahead through education.
Kansans value education and believe that if you are willing to work hard and save, you deserve the opportunity to advance yourself and your family. The K.I.D.S program is just one step to bring Kansas families closer to reaching their goals.
