My office wants to reconnect you with your unclaimed cash and property. Unclaimed property can be anything from inactive savings and checking accounts to uncashed pay checks. Or it can be insurance proceeds or safe deposit box contents. We conduct outreach services to find as many Kansans as possible to give them the opportunity to search our Unclaimed Property database. The search is FREE and easy! We partner with area television stations and newspapers. We are continuously looking for ways to improve our processes.

One outreach activity that is especially enjoyable is the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson, which is being held this year September 9 to 18. The State Treasurer's office has been attending for the past 20 years to give attendees an opportunity to find and claim cash and property. Last year, in only 10 days, $568,504 was found by folks just like you! Since 1994, we have reconnected $5,121,271 just by attending the state fair!

We will be there from the minute the fair opens to the minute it closes to help Kansans find their unclaimed cash and property. We hope you will stop by and search our database even if you looked last year. It is important to remember that businesses and organizations turn over money and property to the Kansas State Treasurer's office every year.

Another accomplishment I am proud to share with you is the debut of our web-based Unclaimed Property system that was designed and implemented by in-house staff. This new system, one of the few in the country, is completely secure and safe to use. Known affectionately in the office as UP3, this new system has improved our efficiency and effectiveness in less than one year. Our services to Kansans have been enhanced by this technology. It allows cash and property accounts to be put into our system faster resulting in quicker return of unclaimed cash and property to its rightful owners or heirs.

We also instituted an on-line pre-approval process for certain claims $150 or less with one owner who has a social security number on file. Claimants will need a valid Kansas driver's license or official Kansas ID. There is no paper work and in most cases you can have your money in five to 10 days. Over 50 percent of our 16,500 claims returned last year were $150 or less.

Also, companies reporting to the Kansas State Treasurer's office with assets (cash or property) for Kansans are experiencing a quicker and more efficient reporting process. Plus the new system is allowing other state agencies to use our services when reporting and claiming property.
